Upcoming Races and Events

Pi Day

Kate reported that the race is a little more than a week out with 106 entrants across all distances.

She is handling last-minute logistics and monitoring the weather forecast. She has reached out to Val with LMBC regarding help at the race and trail conditions leading up to race day. The Gal Gallop crew will help mark the course next Thursday.

Kate thanked those who have already signed up to volunteer and noted that a few additional volunteers are still needed for:

Race packet pickup on Friday Early race morning support Pie baking

Registration notes:

Online registration closes Tuesday before the race In-person registration will be available Friday

Night Hawk

Shari has been contacted by several people interested in taking over directing the Night Hawk. She has invited them to join the Trail Hawks and sign up for the newsletter.

The Night Hawk Fat Ass Run will start and end at the Wakarusa Cabin, pending park approval.

The Hawk

Cara reported 25 entrants so far.

Haunted Jaunt

Chris has submitted the permit application to the city and is awaiting approval.

Planned date: Saturday evening, October 24 Registration platform: RunSignup

Cactus Roulette

Megan reported that the race dates are January 23–24, 2027, and 63 people have already signed up.

All vendors from the 2026 event have been secured for the new date.

This will be the last Cactus Roulette directed by Todd, Megan, and Barrett, so there is an opportunity for someone new to step in and continue the race in the future.

Other Discussion and New Business

Trails That Connect Us Event

Date: April 23 Josh and Megan plan to attend.

Josh suggested that the club should have a giveaway item to distribute beyond paper materials. Mary Ann will check with Jeff Eaton.

The group discussed possible Trail Hawks branded items that are:

Small Affordable Useful

Club Focus

The group discussed ways to grow participation in group runs.

Ideas included incorporating trails beyond Clinton Lake and offering shorter distances.

Mary Ann suggested that trail running, rather than ultrarunning, should remain the club’s primary focus.

Additional ideas discussed:

Offer “fat ass” style runs with shorter loop options to encourage social running Emphasize group runs at all paces Promote Monday and Thursday night runs with paid social ads (Cara) Use photos in social media posts to help boost engagement (Kate) Encourage members to post when they plan to go out for a run to normalize participation (Shari)

Cara noted that the Pi Day Pop-Up Run is a good example of this approach working well, with 16 people attending. She also mentioned that splitting larger groups into smaller running groups helped the experience.

Newsletter Ideas

The next newsletter will go out this weekend and will include:

A call for Pi Day volunteers A reminder about trail maintenance on the first Saturday of every month Opportunities for Night Hawk race directors A “Get to Know a Trail Hawk” feature with photo

Future Plan

Newsletters should go out during the first week of each month following the board meeting.

Meeting adjourned: 7:17 PM
