Lunar Trek Prep

June 17, 2013 by Gary "Story Hawk" Henry

Hi All!

The fabled Lunar Trek night run in Scandia, Kansas is scheduled for Friday night July 19. Lots of distances -- 10k through 100K at night under the full or nearly full moon.

Here's the website -- http://lunartrekrun.com/

And as always, we'll have our own Lunar Prep run to get ready for Lunar Trek.

Lunar Prep will take place at 9 p.m., Saturday, July 6. We'll run the Levee by the Kansas River, and some of the hilly dirt roads beyond, because it's very similar to the Lunar Trek course.

Parking is in the grassy area right by the Levee at 8th and Oak. There's room for about 6 vehicles there, and unlimited safe parking along the street.

We won't park in our usual River Trails parking because we could get locked in when they secure the gate around midnight.

We'll go out seven miles and return, twice, to rack up 28 miles for the night, with extra miles possible if you want them. You can also do shorter out and backs for just about any distance you like.

Bring water. If you're going long, bring food. I'll have a 5-gallon jug of ice-water for refilling bottles and packs. Flashlights and/or headlamps required of course.

Even if you're not planning on Lunar Trek, this is a fun run. Holler with questions, and hope to see you there!
